Rebuild WSY, consolidating around html files and building RAD on-the-fly editing

November 2009

12/11/2009: DW arrives and loads, version 10 Build 4117 SSN1192-1377-8837-9497-5777. Kicks off ProfWork 4.0 and WebWorks 3.0

12/09/2009: First table, ES Fall Schedule. Very familiar and getting capable with DW.

12/6/2009: DW failed due to JS error, so now using Antechinus, with tags-on. Stinks. Fix DW by reloading!

12/5/2009: Files will not save correctly, nuisance. Google the error and must reinstall, which will happen when paid version arrives. The good news is that there is support.

12/2/2009: Ordered DW from Academic Superstore: 12/4/2009 backorder, eligibility cleared up. Adobe posed too many obstacles, came in at same price, and shipped CD. May not obtain before trial ends.

11/30/2009: Tackle global crisis for Public Policy course, with results. Rebuild PP schedule while comfortable in DW -- now the html app of choice. Soon to mount project of global crisis, disabling analysis, for Public Policy course -- a clear challenge given the lack of coherence and the amount of detail of Brown's book. Must appropriate.

11/27/2009: FTP works on-the-fly. Design notes also in site. NTP re shortcuts. Internal sites, /WSY, out of synch.

11/25/2009: DW turn to RAD. Stay with WSY to do list. Building PPC and WSY connections to frame a WSY agenda.

11/24/2009: Turn to global crisis as we do Brown I in PP. Sketch outline in mmap before turning to DW. (Site might help here.) Some integration of mmap and DW. Work quickly and casually in Blooming Grove. Shows that DW can support on-the-fly RAD.

11/23/2009: Added basic pages on From Sustainable Development to World Sustainability and Brundtland Report. Fast, flexible. Confirmed ftp re WeltErde.doc. Started at 6:30 AM. But bombed in class. Students had not read it and too much text for me to reference: Need to script an argument to accompany the expanding body of text as part of PW4.

11/22/2009: Dreamweaver here to stay! Open as matter of course, close to habit. Start mmap. Working through PP site and course. Bought Missing Manual: CSS by McFarland, another excellent resource. Dreamweaver anchors PW4 project, aimed at World Sustainability precursor. Shifted toward scholarship, per ProfWork 4.0, and away from administration. This supports teaching.

11/20/2009: Now using Dreamweaver and trial page for production mode, starting with Strategic Sustainability for Public Policy. This is essential to verify DW and to move pas HP6. Studying CSS as well but learning DW takes priority.

Use DW for next project: Prepare WSY site for Public Policy course, important but neglected. Start with the model of the enabling analysis. Reject the legacy HPP in favor of McFarland advice against frames.

11/18/2009: Getting the hang of Dreamweaver. Fixed bold-bug: CSS. But Dreamweaver made fix easier than making the original error -- which was never caught in HP6. Book reveals the power and flexibility, but, more, the developmental potential to ascend into AJAX phase. Getting results, but realize that Dreamweaver has layers and potential. Just getting started.

11/17/2009: Downloaded Dreamweaver and initiated, but disappointed. Robust but buggy, so far. Powerful but clutsy. Why is this text in bold? Went to B&N for Missing Manual from O'Reilly: solid context and instructions. Bold text, so annoying, was error in CSS, but I don't work with CSS. Dreamweaver got me there! Loaded with features and customizable.

11/14/2009: Circulate Economics of Sustainability syllabus 1.0. Big project, well done.

Discovered that I own Antechinus JavaScript editor, which can produce html. Tried it with mixed results but stayed up until 3 AM. May need to upgrade HP6 for sabbatical, but HP6 strong choice for now. AJS may be the new HP6 or too buggy and bare. Dreamweaver? Costs $99 via academic discount! See RAD.mmap.

11/12/2009: Up at 4:38 re syllabus for Economics of Sustainability and upgrade enabling analysis home page, which now totals over 200 printed pages. NB, Ashwani also up. Extensive RAD building of enabling analysis.

11/11/2009: Rebuilt enabling analysis home page, surprising me on the extent of lecture material and notes. Shows the value of this exercise. Updated World Sustainability schedule. Over 200 pages listed.

11/10/2009: Talk with Dorothy re hypertext as cognitive style and work flow. Ironically, shift to Yahoo! Small Business and FileZilla improved work flow. Prompted development of Hypertext page. Note affinity to Jakob Nielson, The Master.

Examined Dreamweaver but rejected it: too bulky, overkill. Loaded at RC but messed up files after download from Yahoo! server. Way too intrusive. HoTMetaL PRO 6.0 sturdy and durable. No point switching so long as I am text driven, ala Lexia and Jakob Nielson. Incremental build around site management.

11/8/2009N: Yesterday's start worked toward habit of RAD WebWorks, such that html is home to me. Built a WSY tasks page outside of MMAP, with impressive impact on project development. RAD falling into place! See WSY project status page.

Adjusted ENST209 schedule. Rebuilt enabling analysis transition and overview. Must rebuild ea/index.html.

Ground enabling analysis in philosophy: created dir and home. Rebuilt Statement of Concern.

11/7/2009S: Shift from Geocities to Yahoo! Small Business for my web provider and FileZilla for FTP -- making site building easier. Discover that enabling analysis notes scattered among HP6 (html), MMAP, NTP otl, and wiki, thus lacking coherence. Goal here is to gather and consolidate around live html files and to generate a RAD build methodology. html is live build.

Files under construction:

  1. Log (this)
  2. enabling analysis overview
  3. World Sustainability schedule
  4. enable/index.html

Assess goals of this RAD:

Absorb these legacy html docs: notes, core_essays, LM4, statement of concern.

Updated schedule and wiki.
